With the advent of osseointegration promoted by modern implantology, the rehabilitation of edentulous patients has reached a greater number of the world population. The technique of overdenture is the simplest and cheapest in relation to the Branemark protocol, increasing the population of implanted edentulous patients. However, in view of the high rate of prosthetic or implantodontic losses, the failure of the preservation focuses mainly on the involvement of peri-implantitis. The purpose of this article was to present a case of peri-implantitis affecting a patient with overdenture, whose treatment included the application of photobiomodulation coadjuvant to basic periodontal treatment.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to compare the formation of microcracks after canal preparation performed with four different reciprocating single-file systems: Reciproc (VDW, Munich, Germany), Wave One (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland), Reciproc Blue (VDW, Munich, Germany) and Wave One Gold (Dentsply Maillefer).
Methods: Eighty extracted mandibular first premolars were selected and divided into 4 experimental groups (n = 16 teeth) and a control group (unprepared teeth, n = 16); Control, Reciproc (group 1), Reciproc Blue (group 2) Wave One (group 3) and Wave One Gold (group 4). Roots were then sectioned at 3, 6 and 9 mm from the apex, and the surface was observed under a stereomicroscope. Data were analyzed using logistic regression (P < .05).
Results: No cracks were observed in the control group. All the systems tested caused cracks, mainly in the apical section (3 mm). Wave One Gold (50.0%) and Reciproc Blue (62.5%) showed fewer microcracks than other experimental groups (P < .05). There was no significant difference among Reciproc and Wave One experimental groups (P > .05).
Conclusion: All the instruments tested created dentinal cracks. Within the limitations of this study, the flexibility of nickel-titanium instruments because of heat treatment seems to have a significant influence on dentinal crack formation. Wave One Gold caused less microcracks than the other instruments tested.

Materials and Methods: 320 mandibular first permanent molars from 178 females and 142 males scheduled for root canal treatment at the department of conservative Dentistry and Endodontics Government Dental College and Hospital Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) were examined over a 2-year period. Periapical radiographs were used to detect and record the incidence of third root in mandibular first molar and to compare its occurrence between males and females and between the right and left sides of the mandible. Pearson chi-square test with significant level set at p < 0.05 was used for statistical analysis.
Results: 31 teeth out of 320 mandibular first molars were found to have a third root with an overall incidence being 9.68%. The incidence was 8.98% for females and 10.56% for males. There was statistically no significant difference in the prevalence of three rooted mandibular first permanent molars between males and females (p > 0.05). Mandibular first molars on right side showed incidence of third root more than compared to the left side. The incidence was 70.96% for unilateral whereas 29.03% for bilateral.
Conclusion: In conclusion the practicing dentists especially endodontists should be familiar with the ethnic variations in root morphology so as to reduce failures caused by missed canals and roots while treating the mandibular molars. A careful clinical and radiologic evaluation is needed to ensure high long term success of endodontic treatment of permanent molars.

Materials and Methods: The author conducted a literature search on PubMed and Ovid Medline databases. Key terms used were “osteonecrosis”, “avascular necrosis”, “jaw”, and “jaw diseases”. Excluded term was “bisphosphonates”. The search was filtered to the articles published in last 10 years [2007 – 2017 (August)] in English only. Studies on magnitude, causation, and diagnostic foundation of osteonecrosis of jaw were selected. The information has been analyzed from already published data, IRB is not required.
Results: Out of 583 relevant articles (344 on PubMed and 239 on Ovid Medline), most literature pertained to AVN of femoral head and knee, and evidence relating this review was historic and contemplating medication related osteonecrosis of jaw. Studies that comprehend our area of interest are discussed and serve the basis for the recommendations made herein.
Conclusion: AVN of jaw constitutes a series of events leading to life disturbing pain and functional limitation. Evidence for diagnostic categorization of TMJ AVN is limited and there is a need for establishing diagnostic criterion to facilitate communication and formulate plan of care. The criteria can be based on the same as for femoral bone necrosis and portend easy clinical application. The term “necrosis” can only be used after histopathological confirmation and so making this diagnosis based on radiological studies is questionable, suggesting revision of the terminology.
